Episode Context

Many Christians genuinely desire a deeper relationship with God. We make plans to read the Bible more consistently, pray every day, and intentionally spend time with Him. Yet busy schedules, distractions, responsibilities, and unexpected demands can quickly interrupt those intentions.

Building a daily quiet time isn’t about creating a perfect spiritual routine. It’s about intentionally and consistently making room in our lives to meet with God.

Jesus modeled this throughout His earthly ministry. Mark 1:35 tells us, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (NIV)

Jesus lived with constant demands upon His time. Crowds followed Him, His disciples needed Him, and people continually came seeking healing, teaching, and help. Yet Jesus intentionally withdrew from those demands to spend time with the Father.

His example reminds us that time with God isn’t something we simply fit into our schedules when everything else is finished. It is something worth intentionally protecting.

A quiet time can be simple. Choose a consistent time that realistically works with your life. For some people, that may be early morning. For others, an evening, lunch break, or another quiet part of the day may work better. The exact hour matters far less than establishing consistency.

Choosing a regular place can also help create a rhythm. It might be a favorite chair, the kitchen table, a porch, or another location where distractions can be minimized and attention can be directed toward God.

Most importantly, avoid making your quiet time unnecessarily complicated.

Trying to immediately read numerous chapters, pray for an hour, memorize Scripture, complete an extensive Bible study, and journal every thought can quickly turn something meaningful into something overwhelming. Instead, begin with a sustainable rhythm.

Spend a few minutes praying. Read a chapter of Scripture slowly. Reflect on what God is teaching you. Consider how His truth applies to your life.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (NIV)

Stillness can be difficult in a world filled with notifications, entertainment, responsibilities, and constant noise. Yet intentionally removing distractions and becoming quiet before God gives us space to focus on His presence and His Word.

Some quiet times will feel deeply meaningful. Others may feel ordinary. Spiritual growth isn’t measured by how emotional an individual moment feels. Like physical training, growth develops gradually through consistent practice.

And when you miss a day, don’t allow discouragement to become an excuse to quit. Simply return the next day. God’s grace invites us to continue seeking Him.

A powerful place to begin is with a simple seven-day commitment: fifteen uninterrupted minutes with God each day. Pray honestly. Read slowly. Reflect intentionally. Be still.

Don’t focus on making the experience perfect.

Focus on showing up consistently.

As you reflect on this episode, consider this question:

What needs to change in my daily routine so that spending time with God becomes a protected priority rather than an occasional intention?

Stay rooted in God’s Word. Stand firm in your faith. Live with steadfast fortitude.
